Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 with a leading City of London accountancy practice which specialised in the finance sector. This included audit, accounting and project work carried out in some of London’s top financial businesses including stockbrokers, merchant banks, asset management fiduciaries and Lloyds insurance syndicates.
A secondment from the above accountancy practice to their Gibraltar branch led to work being carried out for the Government of Gibraltar in 1990 with direct responsibility to the Minister for Tourism. Originally acting as group accountant and financial advisor to Gibraltar Shiprepair Limited, which was at the time the largest, Government owned company in Gibraltar this led to a significant amount of related work for the Government, Government agencies and Government owned companies.
Continuing in Gibraltar as self employed at the end of this secondment, work activities expanded to cover clients ranging from small sole traders to the Government of Gibraltar.
Work included management accounting, risk management, financial planning, liquidation work, treasury control, financial accounting strategies and auditor liaison.
Joined Credit Suisse, Gibraltar office in 1994. Shortly afterwards moving to assume a management role in their Isle of Man office as part of a corporate reorganisation. Expanded the accounting function within the office and the services provided to other group companies.
Assumed sole management of the office (on site) in 2002 and was appointed as resident Director in 2006. In 2006 the company took on investment business on behalf of a large Credit Suisse Group client connected to a sovereign wealth fund.
In 2010 Andrew simultaneously closed down the Credit Suisse office whilst opening a new office for the investment client on the Isle of Man. This office was integral in the setting up of a new accounting system for the group as a whole, and the company’s investment management business increased to 7 funds with assets under management approaching USD 1 billion.
Andrew acted as Managing Director, MLRO, compliance officer and key member of staff in these business in the Isle of Man. Andrew set up his own business in 2012 and offered financial services in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar on a self-employed basis before joining a London based investment advisory group in 2013 as Group Chief Financial Officer. Acted as Group CFO and resident director of their Gibraltar operation for just under 10 years to 2023.
